Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to restore my company's DNN site from the internet to a local environement. The problem is that after restoring the database and copying all the files, I get the following message:

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

  • You are not connected to the Internet.
  • The website is encountering problems.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:

Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

More information More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

  • Internet connectivity has been lost.
  • The website is temporarily unavailable.
  • The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
  • The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.

Does anyone know why this is happening? The funny thing is that if I change the connection string on web.config file to the live environment it works, but it just doesn't seem to work on my local database.

Does anyone have any input?

Two guesses.  First is that you need to change the portal alias in DNN (most likely).  Second is that you have an issue with resolving the internal site itself.  This error doesn't come from DNN or IIS, it's an IE error.

Be sure to check web.config again, because there are 2 Connection strings inside. May be you have changed only one of them?

Make sure your local computer is overriding the DNS via the host file (c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts), and that the web.config is pointing to the correct server address.
