After a server upgrade I am reinstalling the OS (SBS 2003 w/ all patches) and the latest DNN. However rather then using the SQL2000 that comes with SBS as I did last time, I am using SQL2005 Dev edition that comes with my Visual Studio 2005 DVD. However, I am having some issues during the DNN install with it connecting to the database. I can start the DNN install but when I select it to check the db connection it gives the error it cant connect. SQL 2005 dev edition granted is much more complex then the SQL2000 I am used to. Thus I feel I may be missing something. I created a user with admin rights, created a database and made said user owner of the db. Entered the db user/pw into the DNN config file.

Is there something special else I have to do with this version of SQL? Thanks for any help!

By default remote connections and mixed mode authentication are disabled.  You will want to use the "Surface Area Configuration" utility to enable both features.

You will need to "restart" SQL Server after you make the change.

Thank you so much Mitch! I'll look into that when I get home tonight.
