Hi,

Can someone please tell me where the Privacy Policy and Terms came from? Any background information would be appreciated, but in particular here are some more specific questions?

1. Have these documents been written or reviewed by a lawyer?

2. There is a reference to the State of Washington, USA. Is there a particular reason for that, or should this be a customized section based on the location of the business?

Thanks in advance,

John

Accepted Answer

John,

I assume that the information contained in the default text is based on information prepared for the DotNetNuke Corporation, thus the reference to Washington.

If you are running a business site, you might want to check with your lawyer to see if the default text meets your needs.

If the documents weren't written by an attorney, that individual sure is better suited to draft the language than many practicing attorneys.

If you're serious about your business, it's  probably a good practice to get an inhouse counsel or consult with an attorney about your business...maybe it depends on the barriers of entry specific to the industry/sector and what the goals are for the business.

I can't speak for anyone else, however I've had mine reviewed and nothing seemed to have been flagged.

I was also thrilled that the base for all of that stuff was provided.

I also neglected to mention that I "snapped" together a site for a legal recruiting firm recently which is ran by attorneys that have amlaw 250 experience, and is often vistted by international law firms, corporate legal departments seeking  and attorneys seeking a lateral transition..  They didn't seem to have any problems with it.  If you do find an issue that is raised, please post it to save the embarrassment.

Terms of Use and Privacy Statement are provided as examples and need nearly always be adopted to the concrete situation of your portal - purpose, target audience, portal owner status. you can easily edopt per portal in Admin :: Languages using the Language Editor. you get displayed GlobalResources by default, scroll down to MSG_Terms.text and use the upright arrow to launch the HTML editor.
