Is there a timeframe for the next version of the Blog to come out?  I really am missing the "unique page titles per post" functionality.

Also, would love an easy way to add social bookmarking links as perhaps a "footer template" that appears at the bottom of my posts on the page, but is left out of the feed.

Hi Terry,

although it is not easy to schedule release dates for new versions, I can ensure you the next version of the Blog module is on its good way. As you know, a deep testing and dogfooding has to be accomplished before a public release. I think you will be satisfied by the new social bookmarking feature and SEO fixes that have been introduced, so please be a little more patient and you will see!

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Great, if I can be of help, let me know.  I have a site I would love to help beta test with, and SEO is what I do.

  • I see that you all are working on post titles in the URL.  Will this work in correlation with the core DNN Friendly Urls function so we might have small URLs?  (ie.  www.mysite.com/blog/my+article+title+here)
  • Also, if adding social bookmarking links, it would be great if they were customizeable.  I've managed to get some working on the DNN blog by using Javascript to only display them on Article View pages.  (See Here)
  • Lastly, I tried my darndest to post some code samples in that same link above.  It would render fine on the article page, but it wouldn't render in the XML.  Not sure if "code block" functionality is something that's open to discussion.  Might just be my user error.

More of a question, but if I want to "categorize" my posts (ie. SEO Related, DNN Related, etc), so that visitors could select only the topics they were interested, would I use Child Blogs for that, or is categorization a future enhancement?

Hi Terry,

Excellent points, let me try to answer:

  • Yes, URL rewriting will work together with title URLs.
  • Aty the moment Social Bookmarking has little customization capability, such as turn on and off. Customization will be available through source code, and maybe it will be part of future development.
  • I'm not sure what you mean: doesn't it show in the RSS feed?

Lastly, categorization until now is to be worked out using child blogs. In the mean time the blog team is working hard on categorization and tagging, so expect next generation to include a specific architecture to accomplish this task.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
