The release version of DNN still ships with code-behinds of admin & some desktop modules. One of my friends is tring to compile the entire DNN installation, so that it does not have any code for deployment. Although I know, this does not make any difference from security point-of view, still he want to do this.

Is it possible to compile & publish the entire DNN release version of VS (same way as we do for a normal module WSP project), pick the necessary files (dlls, ascx, dnn, image etc.), but without any source code whatsoever, and use this for installation of DNN???

Due to the way DNN has implimented localization the web site cannot be "pre-compiled" using Visual Studio.  The pre-compile removes a folder, App_GlobalResources if memory serves, and DNN requires this folder to be in place.  I even tried restoring the folder manually but either ASP.NET or DNN would complain no matter what I tried.  As far as I know, "pre-compiling" is the only way to get the code behind source into DLLs ahead of time so you don't need to distribute any source.  As DNN is open source and there really isn't a security risk or a significant performance hit I really dought this will be "fixed" unless it happens due to some other change.  Like moving to ASP.NET's localication.
