Hi All, I'm very new to DNN and web design etc.... I was wondering if there is any kind of module that would allow me to show the External IP address of my server that is hosting the DNN site. I've managed to get 4.8.3 to work on Windows Server 2008 with SQL Server 2005 - which in itself is a miracle. Any help from people in the know would be excellent Thanks very much in advance Julian

Hi Julian,

You didn't say WHY you were looking to display your external IP address, but assuming that it is because you are addressed dynamically, have you considered a free DNS service such as dyndns.org?

If you just want to know what the ip address is, just open a command window (dos window) and type in "ping www.yoursite.com "  You'll get back the IP address if the DNS resolves OK.

Hi guys, thanks for the comments.

I'm looking at producing a gaming website, and need the IP address of the server shown so that people know how to connect onto the gaming server.

I do have a dynamic IP, and my ISP won't give me a fixed one. I have a DDNS account, but the gamers need the IP address of the server to be able to add it to their favourites list.

I just wondered if there was an app or module that would refresh say every 5 or 10 mins to check the IP address hasn't changed and if so publish the new one.

Thanks again

Julian

Hi Julian,,

Makes sense.  I am not aware of anything out there that would do this for you.  Fortunately, it would be a very easy module to write, so if you have any skill in this area, it would be a good opportunity to get your feet wet writing a DNN module.
