I installed DNN with no error messages but when I log in as a host or admin, the app doesnt show that I am logged in. The config section and the menu for the host user dont show up either. Not sure if I did something wrong during installation or I need to do something else for this to work.

do you use any forwarding, proxy or web server optimization (server side compression)?

No, I do not use any of that. Just after I try to login as host or admin, I get redirected to the home page.  No error messages, nothing.

Also, when I stepped through the code, I noticed that Request.IsAuthenticated = false after the login process even though the login went fine. Not sure why  Request.IsAuthenticated is false.

Ok, I figured out what the problem was: authentication was set to Windows instead of Forms in the web.config
