hi all,

im new to this thing and followed instructions as best as i could. from my reading, i had to ensure that .NET 2 was set within the virtual directory of IIS (windows 2003) and i have done this.

the next thing was to add NETWORK SECURITY with permissions of the virtual directory (folder) and make it "modify" permissions. this too i have done.

my SQL string works (SLQ 2005), however, when i try to get the install of DDN, i now get a username / password popup box (seems like NTML authentication) prompting at every step of progress. did i miss something in the instructions somewhere? was this authentication box supposed to appear EVERYTIME (see the URL http://dev1.shoebliss.com.au/). please note that the installation failed even with the correction network credentials. so i will have to delete all files again and start over (and delete the SQL db and create a new one).

any help would be great

cheers

Another permission that you need in your DNN sites is to add the IUSR_<MACHINENAME> with default permissions to your entire DNN installation.

hi guys,

Will was correct. it seems, in haste when i deleted all contents of the folder of DNN, i created a new folder and put the new install files in there. for some reason, IIS never hadded the IUSR_ permission as part of the security settings. i did this manually and now no login prompts what so ever.

and oddly, though not related, the install went fine this time (i think i tried to add to many modules at the same time and that cuased massive failure)

thanks

I am happy that your problem is solved.  As far as your other issue goes, that is only one of many reasons why I always install one module at a time.  That is even when I have installed the module several times in the past.  You just never know what will happen.  In the case of modules, at the completion of each install DNN clears and renews all of its cache.  As you might imagine, after this happens a couple of times in a row, the server resources could suffer.
