Hi

I just added New Locale Definition for Chinese, Japanese and I saw their flags. What next steps should I do in order to build the interface with the relevant languages?

Do I need to download and install the relevant language packs?

Thanks

yes, to get the labels and buttons translated you need to install the language pack, "adding" a language simply adds the flag and the option to translate yourself using the builtin language editor.

I still do not understand why need to use language editor as there are many fields need to be edited.

I downloaded languages pack zip files at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/GroupLocalization/LanguagePacks/tabid/933/Default.aspx

There is an "Install Language Pack" when I login as host identity.

What do those languages pack zip files to be used? Do I need to browse the zip and click install language pack? Because there are many folders that are under the zip file.

I installed 4.8.4, or the version already included those languages zip files?

So I need to use language editor to edit them one by one? and I do not need to further install the language packs?

Moreover, there are Add new modules and existing modules in control panel. What are they? and do I need to download modules at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/tabid/824/Default.aspx ? or the version has already included them?

Thanks for advice.

  • any DotNetNuke distribution contains en-US language files only.
  • To add localization for any other language, download language pack to your local machine, go to languages in host menu and click "Install Language Pack". browse for your local zip file and install it. this will translate all buttons, labels and help texts of the core framework and/or the modules, which are usually specified in the language pack description inside the LP directory.
  • use the resource verifier to identify missing language files and localized keys
  • use the language editor to complete or modify translation.
  • if an installed language pack covers a module, which is not already installed, you will need to reinstall the language pack after the module has been installed.
  • to install modules, go to module definition in host menu. you find many preinstalled modules at the bottom of the page, others can be downloaded and installed using "Install New Module".

There are a lot of installed modules such as blog, forum and banner....etc under modules definition.

However, I do not see their links to use it, e.g. no forum and blog links.

Do I need to add new modules in control panel as I saw there is a drop down list of those installed modules.

But, I do not know what do they mean: Insert Top / Bottom, Visibility Same as Page / Pages Editor only, Align left, center, right.

What does Install Additional Modules mean? What is Add Existing Module besides it?

When should use Module Definition Validator ?

If I downloaded the source code from http://www.codeplex.com/imageeditor/SourceControl/ListDownloadableCommits.aspx, how can I install it?

It is Import Module Definition  or Install New Module ?

What are the difference of  Skins and Containers?

If I want to create a eshop site with ranking of product, does it has any ready modules for it?

BTW, how can I view the Database schema as the database file is not in MSSQL 2005 express. I created database in MSSQL 2005 previously when I develop other web application.

For deployment, can I just upload those dll and aspx files to remote server? but not go through the install wizard? Because I do not know how to deploy it on godaddy after I customize and localize it on my localhost.

Thanks for your thorough advice.
