Hi,

I want to create a new website, but ideally have it as a child portal to start off with with its own www address (i believe this is possible). But if there ever comes time when I want or need to, is it possible to move the portal out so that it is no longer a child portal (if for instance I want to host it seperatly)?

If so, is this a major pain to do, or something that my hosting providers could do quite easily (tbh I know very little about DNN and rely on my hosting provider to do DNN upgrades, reinstate backups etc).

Thanks

Liz

It is possible to promote a child portal to a parent portal within the same DNN install. However there are no existing tools within DNN to move it out into a new instance. You would have to use third party tools.

To extricate a single portal from an install involves taking a backup of all the files and the DB that makes up the current DNN install. Then using these to create a new install.  Once the new install is working you then delete all the other portals leaving just the one you want.

For a lot of hosters this is probably not within thier normal service levels. If you don't feel you can do it then you should be able to find someone that could do it for you.  From my experience the problems that occur usually involve  obtaining the required backups from the existing host or the licensing of 3rd party modules.

Thanks for the info. Surprised that it isn't possible though, all hyperthetical atm, running it as a parent portal is fine for now.

Thanks
