Hi.  I've got an issue where Notifications are always instantly sent regardless of the notification time threshold.

For example, today (3/08/06) at 2:50 PM, I created an event on 3/11/06 at 9:00 AM.  In the "Notification Settings" section, I enabled the "Send Reminder" option and set it for 24 hours.  I received the notification at 2:58 PM, which is 8 minutes later.  I thought that I shouldn't have received the notification until 9:00 AM on 3/10/06.

I've tried this with several events and the same issue happens every time.  I'm using DNN 3.2.2 and AVCalendar 3.2 BETA5.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Am I misunderstanding how to use the Notification feature?

Another issue is that the time displayed within the body of the notification is always in UTC instead of my time zone.  For example, here is the body of the notification from the event mentioned earlier (3/11/06 9:00 AM):
The following Event is about to take place: Breakfast with the Beardsleys
on: Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 2:00:00 PM (UTC -300)

My time zone is "(UTC - 05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)".  This is also the same time zone set for the user, event, portal, and server.

The interesting thing is that the Notification message actually listed the time zone correctly because "UTC -300" would be UTC minus 300 minutes (or 5 hours), which would be Eastern Time.  However, it automatically adds 5 hours to the time itself so that it shows up as 2:00 PM instead of 9:00 AM.  So that actual time is displayed in UTC instead of Eastern Time.

Again, I want to stress that the time zone setting is set to "(UTC - 05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)" for all these objects:

  • Server (Windows 2000)(Control Panel -> Date/Time -> Time Zone Tab)
  • Portal (Admin -> Site Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Other Settings -> Portal Time Zone)
  • Event (Event Settings -> Time Zone)
  • User (Preferences -> Time Zone)

Does anyone have any ideas about this issue?

Thanks,
Van

Hi.  In case this helps, I dug around in the calendar-related tables and found the corresponding records pertaining to the example of the notification issue mentioned in my previous note.

Here are some of the key fields from the corresponding record from the [dbo_Calendar] table:

  • [EventID]                                           7
  • [EventDateBegin]                               3/11/2006
  • [EventDateEnd]                                  3/11/2006
  • [EventTimeBegin]                               3/11/2006 9:00:00 AM
  • [Duration]                                           90
  • [TimezoneOffset]                               -300
  • [SendReminder]                                -1
  • [ReminderTime]                                 24
  • [ReminderTimeMeasurement]             h

Here's the corresponding record from the [dbo_CalendarNotification] table:

  • [NotificationID]                                  6
  • [EventID]                                           7
  • [NotifyByDateTime]                           3/11/2006 2:00:00 PM

The time of the event is store in Eastern Time in the [dbo_Calendar] table in the [EventTimeBegin] field, which is 9:00 AM in this case.  Also the same record has the time offset stored in the [TimezoneOffset] field, and this is -300 (minutes), which is the same as -5 hours, which is Eastern Time.

What's interesting is that [NotifyByDateTime] field in the [dbo_CalendarNotification] table stores the time of the event in UTC format, which is 2:00 PM in this case.  Presumably, this is the time that's getting inserted into the body of the notification message.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Van
