After upgrading to recent version of DNN, the LOGIN no longer functions, but gives error on the page:

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

What version of DNN are you upgrading from? Are you using more than the default DNN Standard login (ie: Active Directory, LiveID, etc)? If you are then I'd try going into the ModuleSettings table and setting enabled for each of them (except DNN_Enabled) to false. Then enabled each on one at a time until you find the problem (if the problem lays in one of the authentication providers).

Thanks for the very quick reply.

Upgrading 3.1

Looking into table.

We were not using more than the standard login type; checking table at this time.

Thank you for the fast reply.

Vs 3.1. This is an inherited website so I am working on familiarizing myself with it and fixing it.

The only login being used was Standard.

While looking for the seetings for other logins in the ModuleSettings table, I looked in the desktop modules. Inside there were vs numbers from 1.0 to 3.1 to 4.

Any update on this?  I updated 2 separate DNN installations from 04.05.03 to 04.08.04 and have the same problem. Both sites load fine but get the following message:

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Any ideas.
