Same thing happends to me.

 

Vista Ultimate, IIS7 , Ms SQL express 2008.

gives me the exact same error.

There is no need to edit origial web.config file anyhow as it is configured already as it should, it will be edited properly during the installation

dnn folder should be writable for network service user or in case if on the server .net is working as anonymous user impersonasation in web.config file should be set to "true"

I believe the reason it may not be working as a virtual site under your parent site is the parent site already has a reference to ScriptModule in the web.config. The child site inherits attributes from the parent site's web.config. If you comment out the lines with ScriptModule in your web.config for the child site, it should correct the error. This solution does not apply if your installation is the root site.

 Perfect! Many thanks for reminding me of the obvious. Commenting out the duplicate entries works a treat. :-)
