Hi Brandon,

Was wondering if you could help me as well - I was able to install DNN 4_8_4 with SQL Server 2005 fine but now when I go to the localhost/dnnsite page and try to login as the admin info they provide on the page I get an error that the "Login Failed, remember that Passwords are case sensitive" .   I tried to use the host login info as well and got the same error.

Here is the admin login info provided on the page -

Username: admin
Password: dnnadmin

I am on a Vista Business OS if that makes a difference.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Buckeye,

If this is a new installation (as it appears to be), not being able to log in initially may be symptomatic of a more serous problem.  Are you able to create a new account and log in successfully?  If so, you can just set the IsSuperUser bit of that user in the DNN Users table and proceed from there.

You might also consider starting a new thread, as there are others who will be able to assist with any potential Vista issues better than I.

Brandon,

I downloaded the source, and attempt to compile in VS05, but get numerous compile time errors.  I'm just about out of ideas, as I have been on this project for a few months now, with little progress.  Would you be willing to run through the install on my dev server and see what you come up with?  As I stated, I can go through the install wizard without problem, but as soon as i finish and click the go to site button, i get the error page.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times without success.

Hi Kevin,

At some point in the past, the DNN httpModules were merged into one assembly DotNetNuke.HttpModules.dll.  Since you have this assembly in your application bin directory, everything is okay there (you'd get a different error if ASP.NET couldn't find the class or assembly anyway).

My recommendation would be to download the DNN source, open up the Library/HttpModules/DotNetNuke.HttpModules.sln solution file, and compile it with debugging symbols.  I've tried suggesting to the DNN team that they provide assemblies with debug symbols, but at this point you'll have to perform this step yourself.

Once you have the debug-enabled assembly in place, deploy it to your DNN bin directory and recreate the error.  You should now get line numbers in addition to the call stack.  Paste this additional information here, and I should be able to target your exact error.

Let me know if you have trouble compiling the httpModule project; I'll be happy to do it for you (I plan on providing them on my blog, but was waiting on 4.8.5 to be released before I did the work).

Hope this helps!

Brandon

Hi Kevin,

Sorry to hear your problems persist!

I actually have precompiled debug assemblies for the DotNetNuke core and HttpModules which you can use without having to compile the source yourself.  You can find these assemblies and instructions for their use here.  I apologize for not notifying you about their availability before now.

Try downloading the DotNetNuke.HttpModules.dll and placing it in your bin directory and see if you can't produce some line numbers this way.  If this does not work out for you, I'd be happy to take a look.  You may contact me at brandon [d/ot] haynes [a/t] everysport.net.  Note that I will be out of town for the next week, so my ability to respond quickly may be degraded.
