Hello,

I am new to DotNetNuke and tried an install today. But I have a small problem:

After installing DotNetNuke 04.08.04 (Install Version) on a XP Professional SP2 machine with an IIS 5.1 I have problems connecting the site remotely. Everything works fine as long as I connect to http://localhost/dnn/ from the server machine.

I tried to connect remotely from my laptop to the server by "http://servername/dnn/" and got forwarded to "http://localhost/dnn". This site could not be found - because I am on a different machine without a virtual directory called "dnn". Is there a way to fix this forwarding thing and connect to the dotnetnuke website from a different location? 


Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my settings? I think it is an IIS problem ... but I am not really sure!

Hey, it's me again! :) I missed to mention that the server is running in my internal network. I tried to connect to the server via my laptop which is part of this network. Also I tried to connect via the internet via a dyndns.org address, same redirect to localhost. I found an article about this problem at: http://geekswithblogs.net/shahed/archive/2008/02/19/119788.aspx But I am not able to find the setting "Http Alias" at the Site-Settings Page. Any help would be appreciated. Christoph

Hi Chris,

On the localhost/dnn machine.  Login in as admin or host and under the admin -> Site Settings page at the bottom you will see the portal alias section.  YOu need to enter an alias for http://servername/dnn/.  That will solve your issue with the forwarding.

its difficult to logon on the local machine, as its a virtual domain name, and so you cant actually GET to it from localhost...so..then what?

Strange, if you can't logon locally on the machine, how did you manage to set it up using "localhost"?

Anyhow, you may also add the external domain address as new record to portalalias table of the database.
