I have created a module for posting and reading messages.  I want to use the same user control for reading messages and replying to messages.  While reading, the EditMode = "View", but for replying the mode is reset to "Edit".  When I set my control's editmode = "Edit" everything is fine.  If user enters a lot of text, then the scrollbar appears on the right automagically, and things are good.  But, when I set the control's EditMode = "View" then scrollbar disappears, irregardless of the quantity of text.  If the quantity is larger than the default control size, then the control resizes to accomodate the quantity of text, sans vertical scollbar.  If I set the control back to "Edit", then the control resizes to the default, and the scollbar on the right reappears.

Am I missing something or not setting some additional attribute that causes this behaviour?

Well, first we need to know if you are using the provider directly or you are using the wrapper that exists in the core as a control. Can you please show a sample of how you are instantiating it?

As far as I know, the provider does not support VIEW or EDIT, so the code you are looking for could be in the control part that is outside of the provider.
