It appears that this is a common problem but no one responds.  Is this a sign to not use DOTNETNUKE.  I used to write customizations for version 3 and the post were helpful.

It does not appear to be that way anymore.

Andres,

i've seen this happen when users were using cassini (the built in webserver in vs.net 2005/2008) to install as it intercepts all requests even to non .net resources such as gif/js, this seems to cause a problem with the ajax on that page. I usually get around this by manually editing the web.config in advance and setting both the connection string values, rather than setting them during the installer. Alternatively, you can select "auto" and this screen is skipped and standard settings are made.

Thanks Cathal -

Setting the Wizard to Auto did it for me.

Hi!

I solved the problem in IE with setting to 'Auto' but this is not the ultimate and easy solution... Make the installation fresh from Firefox instead and it will work flawlessly (if ecerything else is set up correctly that is).. at least it did for me..
