It is a secret in the DNN source code.  <smile>

The default security methods are 3DES (Triple DES) and SHA1 (Secure Hash Algorithm).

what is encryption key? i checked encryptionkey column in HostSetting table at database and that is blank.

Try looking in your web.config file. The seetings for your DNN Application will be there. You'll also need to look in the DB for the password, passwordformat, and passwordSalt.
