Hi....I have been working for several days on getting the AD Provider configured with DNN 4.8.4.  I'm using the latest (.03) version which came in the install package.  I believe I have executed the instructions posted here (and other places) faithfully, to include - setting directory permissions wide open on the install directory, setting security permissions on the signin .aspx page appropriately, turning impersonation on with an appropriate domain account.  No matter what I try, I cannot get past the following error when I try to set the configuration for Active Directory:

Error: is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.ADSI.Utilities.AddADSIPath(String Path, Path ADSIPath) at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.ADSI.Utilities.GetRootEntry(Path ADSIPath) at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.ADSI.ADSIProvider.GetNetworkStatus() at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.Settings.UpdateSettings() --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

We have tried this on multiple installs and we have verified that the box itself is on the domain and other applications are able to leverage LDAP successfully.  Is there something we're missing?  All the solutions posted here and on other sites for this topic do not seem to help at all.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Did you follow the AD Provider documentation (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/ProviderAuthentication/Downloads/tabid/852/Default.aspx)? My initial reaction is that you need to use impersonation in your web.config and you mention that you've already done that but is it setup like it's outlined in the documentation?

Hi Mike,

I get this same error as THEKRAMER2001. Still, when i press "update settings" on the authentication page i also get the message that the settings were applied successfully. And when i log in with my usual windows password it works fine. The only thing not working is the autologin feature. I have read the document but still this does not work :(

Is it possible that this is caused by me using a windows 2008 server?

Best regards,
Margeir

Mi Mike,

Sorry... I was wrong... it was not the same error ...

I receive this error:

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Unknown error (0x80005000) ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80005000): Unknown error (0x80005000) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind(Boolean throwIfFail) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_IsContainer() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntries.ChildEnumerator..ctor(DirectoryEntry container) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntries.GetEnumerator() at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.Settings.CheckPipelineMode() at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.Settings.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---+

Everything works fine exept the autologin does not work :(

Best regards,
Margeir

I'll have to do some searching to see if I can come up with what's causing that error.

BTW I updated the 01.00.04 documentation to include setting it up for IIS7 (Vista/Server 2008). http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/ProviderAuthentication/Downloads/tabid/852/Default.aspx
