Dear Colleagues!

Have looked over all forum and can't find similar question.

There are 600k of users in DNN community. It is Very Good. But main question: how many Live users (active) and how many Dead (non-active users)? Because in generally looks like not more then 20k of users here at the Forum! Also about 5k developers at Snowcovered! This is why 600k looks like unreal number. May be 300k? 200k?

Also interesting question: does anyone know DotNetNuke's competitors? I remember Shaun had comparison in the one old NewsLetter, but can't find.

Thanks

Sergey

I believe the blog post you're looking for is http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryID/1766/Default.aspx.  I don't, however, know if there are any statistics on how active the users on DotNetNuke.com are.

Hope it helps,

Accepted Answer

Sergey,

Since DNN1, there have been more than 600k Users registered on DotNetNuke.com in order to get access for downloading the software. Of course, a large number will have just downloaded, installed and played a bit with the software before continuing to evaluate the next software, but on the other hand there are numbers of Site owners, who got DNN provided by their hosting provider (and did not need to register on DotNetNuke.com) or got DNN isntalled by their solution provider, like most of my customers. Many users prefer to ask their solution partner instead of "outing" in a public forum, which makes it realistic seeing a much smaller number of users in the forums.

Same with developers: there are many specialized on custom development, not selling on public platforms (including me), therefore the active number of DNN developers might be a few thousands - but we currently do not have tools to count them.

There are a number of competitors, most of them with a variing feature set, like true CMS, or even basing on the LAMP stack. Check out e.g. www.cmsmatrix.org

Leupold

Thank you very much for so detailed answer! Have looked at competitors and very interesting situation: looks like only DotNetNuke is in the .NET environment, rest are for Java or Linux-oriented languages. Very interesting information.

Sergey
