Actually aside from the Flash intro (you know nobody watches those, right?) the guitarist web site is pretty good. I didn't mean to bash the designs, only to point out that DNN doesn't add anything special that you actually need, and DNN is a huge performance hit over straight HTML.

Yeah -- I hate the Flash intro and tried very hard to talk my step-dad out of it... he wouldn't listen.

I hate the layout and design on my mom's site as well... but she's a little old lady and doesn't care what I think.  I was just using those as examples that a couple of old people (over 60) can still manage their own site without knowing HTML.  I'd LOVE to redo the design on my moms site but she is very stuck on those ugly colors.

Perhaps a slightly better site (design wise) would be http://www.stackablecrew.com

You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion.  In the end it is the person who owns the site whose opinion matters.

Great.

Thanks for your replies.

Confirmed what I thought really which was that a html/css site will be better and quicker.

One of my main cnocerns was the initial load time...... impatient people will just close the window!

Hi,

My advice is different. If you "inject"  "Now" to your sentence you'll see what I mean:

"A few of the websites are NOW basically text with some pics". DNN will help you if they'll change their mind in the future.

Actually I try to tell people their opinion doesn't really mean anything - it's the collective opinion of the web site users that matters. If they aren't getting what they want, your site has very little purpose, and it doesn't matter what you think. All you have to do is spend 5 minutes on Myspace to realize that the average person knows nothing about web design. What amazes me is that they all think they do.
