I figured out that I am getting the following error when I try to expand the tree structure of my forum.

This happens when I try to Move Threads between forums, and User Settings > Tracking/Subscription.

 

There are broken images.

When I view the properties, the path appears to be:

http://localhost/forum/ctl/ThreadMove/mid/374/forumid/5/threadid/25/images//DesktopModules/Forum/Themes/Default/Images/s_dnnanim.png

Is this the cause? Has anyone else encountered this before?

Check your physical folder permissions on your server and check if the file exist.   But normely a missing image didn't get this error.  It can also happend, that some IIS settings wrong.  Have you made any changes or installed a 3rd parity module?

Thanks for your reply.

I figured out that it has something to do with the friendly URL of my application.

I'm using the one from iFinity, http://www.ifinity.com.au/Products/Friendly_Url_Provider_For_DNN/

However, it should not render a non-existing image in the first place..?

I found this part of code in the HTML source:

... workimg="/dnn_site/DesktopModules/Forum/Themes/Default/Images/s_dnnanim.png" ...

where s_dnnanim.png is not there in the first place (?)

I am wondering why using a 3rd parity FURL Provider, about DNN supports FURL by self.   Also I don't think this is a issue from the Forum Module, eighter your 3rd parity FURL Module.  And I know the dnn forums didn't have a image named s_dnnanim.jpg.
