I'm just curious if the Gallery module will ever be released as it has taken an outrageous amount of time so far?!

It will, if we are sure it is stable and error free.  If you look to the last posts you see we come closer.  But you must also understanding this is a open source project with a new team, how didn't know the code on his beginning. Also some testing is needed, would is doing on a internal testing team of the gallery team.  That they can found some issues is clear, and that we do not release it with showstoppers must be clear too.

If you can't wait, way did you not volontair as a developer ( if you have knowledge) ?

We are now finished the testing of the first beta, a 2nd will following in the next 10 days.  Hopefull we can then do a first RC. And going then to release.

Kind regards

Matthias

Short answer: Yes, it will be released. Thanks for asking.

Matthias:

With all due respect, you cannot ask every person that asks a question why they didn't become a volunteer.  I would like to ask the whole community to stop that practice.  Not everybody that uses DNN is a developer, or even the ones that do some development, do not possess the specific skills necessary to be part of the formal teams.  Again, respectfully, asking someone why didn't they become a developer for asking a question in a public forum is even offensive.  You are basically saying that if you are not a developer in the team you cannot talk.  This is incorrect and improper in this media my friend.

I want to encourage all users of DNN to continue asking questions regardless of this type of mentality.  We can expect and demand quality from DNN even if not all of us can be part of a development team.  Like I just said in another related post moments ago, DNN is not a hobby effort any longer, the DNN Corporation wants the public to take the product seriously and we are, this is why we can ask questions.  And don't get me going on the history of the Gallery Module and the long wait, which I have followed closely for a long time.

I could also say, if you cannot take the heat then maybe you should not be part of a development team after all, programming skills is not all that's needed .

Carlos,

perhaps I missunderstand you in your question, but I read it with a worry and unrespect to the teams work.  All of the project teams working as voluntary, and spends a lot of time in there projects. I have a big respect to all these guys and girls!  Specialy the new Gallery team works on a never official released Module, with was down for a long time.  So for the first release we had planed to give the users a stable and near bug free new module they can work with.

To the users who missed this module I have also understanding on asking when it goes to release, but I think ther must be also some understandin to the team, if we can't hold the time frame we give us.  I also understanding frustration of users who have used the Gallery Beta 3.x in a production environment, but it was never released officialy.  Sure it was integrated in the Forum Module for the avatars, but it is not longer needed since the form 3.20.09 was released.

So using a beta in production szenarious would be on own risk of the user.  I think it is not productive to say it is a impertinence time we need for a first release and looks to unrespect the hard work the team does.  But I would say it was a missuderstand of your typed question.  But on your answer to me I see also more frustration and a attak to me pernonaly.

It isn't that I ask all users on a question if the would come to volontary, but I do also think on a open source project, that some users without develope knowledge but have knowledge on this project can help.  i.e with some testing or other.

The Team works under the agreement of DotNetNuke, and we would also aswers questions respectfull.  But i think we can also be some critical if some people are asking unrespectfull to the community or the team.
