I am having an issue with a failed machine account login that shows a revealing error page as described in my post here.

This is basically the error I am recieving:

Error   Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\COMPUTERNAME$'.

I know this error is related to SQL Server as it is showing up in the SQL error logs. I have heard suggestions to use a username and password in my connection string instead of Integrated Security. I'm using an impersonation account and added it to the DB as a user. When I try to add the username and password to the connection string, I get a very unspecific error telling me the site is unavailable and to check back later.

Here are the strings I've tried:

Data Source=server; Initial Catalog=database_name; Uid=domain\username; Pwd=password;

Server=server; Database=database_name; Uid=domain\username; Pwd=password;

Has anyone else had issues with the connection string in this way? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I always use SQL User for connections.   Are you sure your connection string is correct?

It works fine when I set Integrated Security to True, but when I try to add a username and password, it does not work. I guess I don't have to use my impersonation account. (That account is a db owner, though.)

The only difference I see in my connection string and that link is the Driver attribute. Do I require that?

Kellie,

Honestly, I am not sure. It makes sense that you would need it, but I can't be sure.  Play around with it, you will get it.

Just remember your asp.net (on WinXP {computername}\aspnet) account must also have rights in your sql db mine is set to db_owner.
