Is there a way to set this module up so that users can post back a reply to the forum directly through email (similar to replying to a Yahoo!Groups post)?

Thanks, Ted

No, this is not a feature of this Forum.

We are also looking for this feature.  We read here that Active Forums provides this, so we bought it, but unfortunately it does not work in our case because we can't stop users from creating more than one account with the same e-mail address (and ActiveForums automatically rejects posts if it finds multiple accounts for the same e-mail address).   Since we have tens of thousands of users, we don't want the support nightmare of having to explain to these users how this particular software works). Anyone want to buy a slightly used version of ActiveForum Enterprise?

So we are looking for either

  • a module that would allow e-mail replies to the Core Forum or
  • a third party forum product that could use DNN registrations as an authentication process

We are currently using a very outdated but mature forum product, but are hoping to move to a product that is more integrated with DNN.  Most of our users (80%) participate via e-mail, so having that part work would be a must.  Our current product is configurable to handle multiple e-mail addresses in a safe manner.

We are even interested in having someone with experience in mailing list functionality develop a module that would allow e-mail replies to the DNN core forum module.

Ideas anyone? Has anyone come up with a way to wedge a third party mature forum and e-mail product into DNN?

Just to be clear, I am not disparaging the AF product:

unfortunately it does not work in our case because we can't stop users from creating more than one account with the same e-mail address

The mail features do not work for us, where we have many users, who have for various reasons (including requirements of other modules), over the last 15 years that we've hosted these communities, created multiple accounts with the same e-mail address.

I'm sure the product is great for those of you who can and do enforce unique e-mail addresses.
