Personally, if you have SQL 2000 or 2005 I would avoid SQL Express like the plague, I never have any luck getting it to work.

In SQL 2000/2005 Create a new Database, call it DNN484 if you like (something that you will know what it is in the future perhaps) then create a user (sql authentication, not windows) in SQL who has access and DB_owner permissions on the DB.

Then in the DNN wizard choose the SQL 2000/2005 Option, put in the server name, put in the database name of DNN484, the username and password, click test connection.

If you're not using SQLExpress don't bother putting the database in the app_data folder, I always keep my databases in their own folder somewhere outside of the website folders.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply.

I wish I would have some where a tutorial that covers all of the above in great details. This is a nice link: http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/ but did not get into great details regarding the installation process.

Ok in that field where it asks for the database name only, I would need to enter also user and password I guess. What will be the exact syntax for that?

After the connection is tested OK, do I need to continue with Next? I got stock before after I got there.

Thanks,

Doron

Hi All,

I appreciate if somebody can clarify the above since I am stock. Also would like to know if there is any documentation that handles DNN installation with ms sql 2005 Enterprise or the Developer edition.

Thanks,

Doron
