Looking for information about the Text Size Switcher on this site (see the top of page to the right of the search box).  I'm curious as to whether this uploads a different skin or is it a CSS switcher?  Anyone know how this works?

Thanks in advance!

Tim

These articles should give you a pretty good understanding of what was done on the DotNetNuke site, and how to do it yourselft;

http://skinergy.speerio.net is the actual product used here if that's what you want to use.

Hello,

Just to follow this up, the tutorial mentioned above is actually a tutorial which informs you how to enable Internet Explorer to use re-sizable text in DotNetNuke (ie. Go to the view menu / text size / largest) and you will see the text display in a larger size when resizable text is enabled within your skins.

If you are going to use the DNN tool on the DotNetNuke website to create larger text for people with visual impairments, consider this: - Will the users with visual impairments even be able to see the small icon boxes to increase the text size?

I think the icons are a useful feature for general users who wish to adjust the layout and text size to make the site easier to view, but for anyone with visual impairments will they realise this facility is available with the small icons?

Personally I opt for enabling text resizing within IE because that will be the standard method that most visually impaired people will be used to using.

Although, having said this, a visually impaired person maybe using a completely separate piece of software to increase the overall size of all content within their computer - I do recall seeing a particular example of a user increasing the text size so large that it literally had one line displayed on the screen at a time.

Anyway, food for thought, would be interested to hear if anyone has actually tested the text sizing boxes with a group of people with visual impairments.

Thanks,

Lee,

Thanks for the "food for thought."  I agree with you and here's what I'm thinking.  I would use the switcher with variable font sizes (% and em) so the font size could still be controlled by the IE and FF 'adjust font size' controller.  The idea behind the CSS switcher is that users can have the option of using either as there's no reason the text re-sizer would not work unless I used fixed font sizes in the CSS.

Additionally, this application may be in a kiosk, like a survey type set up and so the users may be viewing it - not in their normal resolution and settings.

After looking at the CSS re-sizer integrated on DNN, I think it's a Javascript basd one and I'm looking for an ASP.NET server side one. Preferable 2.0;)

Thanks!
