Often are times when I get frustrated with DNN. Sometimes I wonder if it's the best choice for the job at hand. I have based the last four years of my career on working with, and most recently, selling DNN solutions. People are often skeptical, especially when the words "Free" and "Open Source" are tossed around.
I did a demo of DNN for a potential client today. I really enjoy doing these pitches about DNN because it allows me to step outside of my shoes and look at the product from a different, fresh perspective. I usually go through the basic features that I, and I expect everyone, take for granted. Role based security, site logs, event logging, newsletters, skinning etc...
I always get interrupted with exited questions like "Can it do X, Y or Z". I can always answer either "Yeah, that's included in the framework" or "For 60 bucks we can buy a module to do X, Y and Z". Once they see how easy it can be to use and the functionality included, their enthusiasm gets contagious. It reminds me of when I got really jazzed about DNN for the first time.
So call me a sappy fool, but I just wanted to say a big thanks to all those involved on the core team and project teams, past and present. While DNN may still have a few weaknesses, overall it's a fantastic product and an easy one to sell.
