Hello,

I have been using DotNetNuke for a while now and started implementing the AD auth provider to prevent users from logging in.
Everything works like it should be but my manager isn`t very pleased with the fact that new users have to login the first time they enter the site. Is it possible to use the user environment variable (%USERNAME%) to query AD. So when a user enters the site, the provider looks for the WinUsername and uses that to retrieve all necessary data.

Thanks in advance,

Jaap Groenendaal

If the second <add name="Authentication".... /> is uncommented in your web.config then users should be automatically logged in. Read through the documentation (downloadable from here) and it should get you going.

Mike, i have read the documentation and the HttpModule section was already uncommented from the web.config file.
After searching this forum for similar posts i found a test tool called AuthTest, i even get a login dialog when i use that, so i`m pretty
sure that it doesn`t have anything to do with the provider. Can you please give me a hint where to look next.

Thanks,  Jaap

This is from another user that was having similar problems to what you're seeing with IIS.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871179

After he did that he was still getting asked for credentials and found this for IE7:

All working now thanks for you help, IE6 works perfectly however in IE7 there is an option which has to be enabled

Tools > Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Custom Level > Scroll right to the bottom of Settings > Select "Automatic logon with current username and password" > Click Ok > Click Ok

And works perfectly
