I'm trying to move my portal from a local site to a GoDaddy hosted site. It ran fine on the GD site before, so this is a "refresh" of that portal database. Unfortunately, GD won't let you do a db restore from your SQL .BAK file if it wasn't created on their system.

So I tried the Template export/import feature. All seemed to work fine- all content was replaced on the GD site EXCEPT the Forums. None of the forums were copied, and now there's only the default forum there.

How can I move my forums into the GD site? Is there a way to have them included with the Template feature?

DNN version: 4.8

Thanks in advance,

umbighouse

I the Import/Export is the iPortable function you can see in the Module Definations.  The Forum Module did not supported the iPortale feature, by design.  Generaly the SQL-Server accept sql.bak files if they are from the same version or from a lower version. It looks more like you didn't have permission to the SQL Server for restore databases.

Matthias,

The steps I followed for the portal template export was on the local version to go to Host | Portals | Export Template.

Then on the GoDaddy hosted version, I went to Admin | Site Wizard and did the template import, choosing to Replace content.

There isn't a SQL permissions issue here- it's a limitation of GoDaddy's restrictions on SQL db management. They only let you restore db's that were backed up on their system. In my case, the db is coming from my local system.

So I'd like to know how to move the forum content to the hosted db if it doesn't get included with the Template export.

Thanks.

The Export Template is the IPortable too, so it can only export content from Modules that supported the iPortable.

I would sugegst your provider to give you permission on your hosting folder to save and upload SQL backups.  So you can use it.  If GoDaddy used Plesk there is also a way to restore databases as *.bak files.  (Since Plesk 8.4)

So are you saying the issue is that the Forums module isn't supported by the iPortable feature? Didn't realize this is what it was called.

As for GoDaddy, it's not a matter of file/folder permissions. I can upload the .BAK file to the backup folder and even see it in the SWL management interface they use. However, there must be some kind of signature written on their backups, since they identified mine as not coming from their system, and won't allow it to be restored. They claim this is for "Security Reasons".
