Hello,

Thanks to a helpful response form Stuart, I now understand URL canonicalization via 301 redirects. I have full control over IIS, so setting it up was easy thanks to Tom from Seablick.

My question now: if this is the only thing I do initially, will it come back and haunt me 6 months from now when I want to revisit SEO?

My product is very specialized, and I imagine SEO will have very little short term impact compared to word of mouth in relevant online communities.

I want to take my site live within the month, which means SEO is a very low priority - that is if the consequences of ignoring it can easily be overcome. IE I get pushed so far down in page rank that it will take a year to overcome it etc.

Put simply, I am new to SEO, so I don't understand the impact of running a live site for an extended period of time without optimizations...

Thanks,

Matthhew
