Dear All,

I have a customer who would live to display live webcams on their website - which is built in DNN. And no its not a porn site - its a bridge site :)

I would welcome any suggestions as to how this could be achieved.

Cheers,

Dale

Dale,

There are a couple of good modules available.  One is from Rodney Joyce at http://www.smart-thinker.com/ also there is a module from TarrantIT.  Currently I am using the IFrame module to show a image that I toss to a server every 15 sec. http://lindenwoodcc.com/Default.aspx?TabId=459 .

Hope this helps,

Eddie

Hi Dale

What do you mean by live webcams?  As Eddie says you can use an i-frame for a "static" feed where you just set a refresh rate or push an image file up.  If you need to stream content then simply embed the player of your choice and connect to your streaming server.

If you wish to stream content you can use Windows Media Services (part of IIS).
The Flash server is quite expensive. The Silverlight is going to be less expensive but still a beta.

I have a clients site running multiple WMV streams. These are 15 fps. See on a public page here.
 http://www.newforestgateway.org/Wildcam/LiveCameras/tabid/117/Default.aspx

The downside of WMS is the FireFox problem which makes viewing windows media content very difficult.
We have done some test with the Silverlight server but decided to wait until its out of beta and properly available to buy.

Your bandwidth numbers go up with streamed content but you do get the rights management.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the ideas guys...

Could you please be so kind as to go into a bit more detail about the setup as I'm not clear how it all hangs together.

So the webcams plug into a box, lets say Box Y, and my server is located on the internet, say Box Z.

1) How would I go about setting up the static display? What do I do on Box Y and on Box Z?

2) How would I go about setting up the streaming display? What do I do on Box Y and on Box Z?

Thanks again guys,

Just found http://www.tarrantit.com which explains exactly how to set it up for the static case which I think should do the job in this instance. Cheers.
