Can I use the template (starter kit) install for developing my own modules against DNN 4.x.x?  I was reading through the Module Developers Guide to get started and some of the things referred to in the documentation I did not see in my installation?

For example:
"4. Add a reference to the DotNetNuke project in your new module project.
5. In the BuildSupport project in the <approot>\Solutions\DotNetNuke.DesktopModules\BuildSupport\ directory add a reference to your project. By adding the reference to the BuildSupport project will take the references from your solution to be built within the main DotNetNuke bin directory."

I could not add a reference to the DotNetNuke project from my new class project that was added to the solution, and I did not see the "Solutions" directory.

Thanks,

Chas

Although the Module Developers Guide included in the documentation zip for DNN 4.00.02 is still helpful in describing the generalities of module development, the problem is that it has yet to be updated to include information on the sweeping changes brought about by the dynamic compilation model of ASP.NET 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005.  For those interested in following this model for building modules for primary use on their own sites, who don't feel that there is a performance penalty to pay by not pre-compiling the modules code into a dll assembly, and who don't mind releasing their source code with the module, the new model is much easier to use.  However, for those who wish to distribute pre-compiled (Private Assembly or PA) modules for installation, the situation is much more difficult with various options still being worked out.  I'm waiting to see if the release of the Web Application Project and Web Deployment Project previews will be of help in this area - so far, I've had no success in going that route.

For the dynamic compilation model, the best tutorial that I've found is the on-line one prepared by Michael Washington found at:

The following thread from the Asp.Net Forums by Shaun Walker himself is also of tremendous help: http://forums.asp.net/1114393/ShowPost.aspx

Give both of these a try and let the rest of the forum member know if you need help on specific points!
