Is there going to be any update to the release schedule.

After the initial OpenForce conferences there was a great deal of anticipation regarding the version 5.0.0 DNN release. The schedule for release stated a tentative release date of Q2 2008. June came and went, and now we are only 3 weeks away from the start of Q4 2008.

I realise that the release process is complicated and it is essential to ensure a smooth release of a stable code base, but isn't it also a good idea to keep the users of that same code base informed about the timeline for its update and release?

Any information on the 5.0.0 release would be greatly appreciated, not only by me, but I am sure, by many others.

Kind regards,

Adrian Scott-Day

Hey Adrian,

When I was at OpenForce Vegas last year, I had heard that 5.0 was going to be out in January.  Regardless of if it is January or Q2, it is obviously pretty late.

There was a post from one of the core teamers earlier last week that mentioned that next week (now this week) DotNetNuke 4.9.0 is due out.

I will warn you though - I'm not holding my breath for 5.0.  I was playing with Beta 7 last week and I couldn't even log in.  :(  I am guessing that 5.0 is going to be released at one of the OpenForce events because they have a pre/post conference training session on it.  However, I would really be careful about implementing 5.0 until they get it production stable.

Tony,

I am a customer of yours at PowerDNN.  If you are "not holding your breath for 5.0", why are you proclaiming it on the site in the browser header?

DNN 4.9.0 is planned to be released during this week and shall be the most stable DNN 4 ever. We backported a number of issues fixed for DNN 5 and also included the latest module and FCKEditor provider versions for best experience.

DNN 5.0.0 shall be released after intensive testing, which still may take several weeks. There have been several changes "under the hood" that needs to be made fully compliant with existing interfaces, so all modules, Skins and Language packs, created according to the Guidelines will continue to work.

Everything is being done to get the new releases out. Priority is given, however, to security issues. And there were a couple early summer. Everyone will appreciate that everything is done to keep the platform safe as well as 'cutting edge'.
