I'm new to this version of the AD provider but I'm having a problem where it seems that only my domain admins in AD can login to the portal.  Everything works fine with my account but on the same machine if I log off and back on with my test user which has "normal" permissions I am prompted for a password in a dialog box.  It won't accept my password (domain\login for the username) and if I click cancel I get "HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource."

I have a portal running with an earlier version of DNN (4.5.3) and it works for everyone.  I am using version 1.0.4.62303 of the AD provider.

Matt, what version of DNN are you running? Was it a clean install or an upgrade? Have you gone through the documentation (it's the .03 version but it's still valid) for the new version of the provider? It's similar in setup to the old version but there are a few changes.

DNN 4.8.4 and I have followed the documentation.  It is a clean install.  When I put the info into the AD configuration section it says everything is OK (finds our domain, etc. and gives me the green triangle.)

I've been looking at the NTFS permissions and I think that I've found the culprit.  The other site I have that works has "Authenticated Users" with Modify permissions.  The site that doesn't work doesn't have that (or "Everyone") in the list.

I'm sure if I give Authenticated Users modify permissions that it will be OK but I was wondering how this will affect it if I want to let in users that aren't logged into the domain - will it deny them?

You shouldn't have to give them any NTFS permissions. Did you switch the web.config from forms Authentication to Windows Authentication? That could be your culprit right there. The AD Provider works best under forms Authentication with, possibly, a single user set up as an impersonation user.
