One thing you can do to avoid the page priority issue and still use the DNN sitemap is edit the file sitemap.aspx.vb and comment out the line in the function BuildURL(...)

' sb.Append(WriteElement("priority", SITEMAP_PRIORITY, Indent + 1))

When you do this the xml produced will no longer produce the priority tag. But, consider this a "core" modification so you'll have to remember to make this change the next time you apply an upgrade...at least until this is fixed. And be sure to make a backup copy of this file just in case you need to revert back.

Also, as far as I can tell the lastmod tag doesn't work as you might expect. It reports the same date (Date. Now) for every page regardless of them changing or not.

Hope this helps.

I don't know whether you've ever come across my sitemap system, but it allows for addition of custom providers for different DNN modules.  I'm guessing the site you're generating an index for uses Engage Publish, which obviously generates > 1 Url for each page the module is on.  The sitemap provider model I developed lets you plug in custom providers for something like Engage Publish, and you can then develop your own rules inside that provider as to how you prioritise the pages.  For example, in the blog provider I distribute, I set the priority based on how recent the blog post is.  In the News Articles provider, I change the value based on whether or not the 'Article' is featured or not.

The tools are there to build your own provider, or I could help you out with one for Publish.

This is a relatively new feature in google, I know I've logged this one in gemini. I would say it's not a "serious" issue for that reason alone, but I do understand the serious need to improve google search ranks "come what may!"

It looks pretty cool Bruce, thanks for the tips.

I'll have the team here implement it into Engage: Publish.

Thanks!
