Hi

I have installed DNN onto a GoDaddy site, which is working, if AJAX is not enabled. I have a module I need that uses AJAX, however, whenever I activate AJAX, I get the following popup message whenever I click some of the standard links (eg, Manage Password under the Manage Profile form):

Sys.Webforms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.

When I open the page with the new module, the following is displayed:

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the \\ section in the application configuration. ---> System.Web.HttpException: Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the \\ section in the application configuration.

Can someone help me please? thanks

Have you tried using this module in a local install of DNN (save DNN version etc)?  If so, does it work correctly when running it locally (i.e. is it the module or the GoDaddy environment)?

Is this a module you developed or is it a 3rd party module you purchased?  If it is 3rd party, have you contacted them for a fix?

Thanks Robert for your reply

I have done a local install and it works. I have actually done this same install on another DNN website, and it works too. I am somewhat convinced it is a problem with the GoDaddy environment, but the working site is also house on their servers.

The issue I have seems to be AJAX related, as when the AJAX option is disabled, I can successfully navigate and operate DNN controls such as the Manage Password, Manage Profile buttons on the Manage Profile form.

Switching AJAX on however gives a popup message whenever I try to use one of the controls. For instance, the Manage Password gives the following:

--------------------------------------------------------------

Sys.Webforms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.

Details: Error parsing near 'ost > Host Settings|</object></layer></s'.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The module I've installed is a shopping cart/eTailer suite from Emerald Solutions called eTailer. It installed very easily on my working site, and is great, but on this install, it just won't take, because it needs the AJAX environment. So this is where I am stuck, as I know very little about AJAX and its setup for DNN.

Thank you Robert for your reply
The DNN instance I have on my GoDaddy website seems to have a problem with AJAX, more specifically than the actual module I am having trouble with. The module I'm trying to get working is from Emerald Solutions and is called eTailer, which is a ShoppingCart/eRetail suite.
I have installed this same module on another GoDaddy site I have, with no problems, because this site allows AJAX to be enabled.
I upgraded my (not working) site to DNN 4.09 today, with no luck.
I've also tried this same version on my local PC, and it works fine, so I am convinced it is something I'm doing wrong in my setup of the site.

If AJAX is enabled, I get popup messages like the one below, when I click on certain DNN controls, like the "Manage Password" or "Manage Profile" control on the Manage Profile form:
        --------------------------------------------------------------
Sys.Webforms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.
Details: Error parsing near 'ost > Host Settings|</object></layer></s'.
        --------------------------------------------------------------

My initial install onto the GoDaddy site was to create a portal folder, and copy all the Website folder of the DNN source into this folder, changing the permissions and IIS permissions to read/write and web, modify the web.config appropriately, and allow the setup to run. The ASP version is 2.0/3.5. This worked fine. But AJAX does not work. I've repeated the entire setup several times to see if there was a problem initially, but no success.

My question I guess is, is there some setting that I need to be aware of to allow AJAX to work? Where can I find documentation on how DNN uses AJAX?

Thanks for your assistance
Paul

Not as far as DNN or .Net is concerned.  I would suspect that maybe the server you are on has not had the Ajax extensions installed on it.  Have you called GoDaddy tech support to verify the version of .net on the server and if it has the extensions installed?  I cannot imagine why they would not have the latest of both, but...
