Just got off the phone with Tony.  PowerDNN's PLESK system DOES make good backup files but it does NOT allow users to restore those backup files.  It will say it does and it will give every indication that it is restoring but in fact it does not restore.  What apparently has to happen is one of PowerDNN's tech's has to move the files from the created backup file into the proper places on your site and then restart the site.  This requires coordination and is a pain for everybody involved.

Good news...the data doesn't appear to be at risk since a backup is made and they have imaging as another layer of backup.

Bad news...for a long time now users have no way to backup their sites, install a new module, and then quickly restore their site if the module they installed had bad consequences.

Tony closed my trouble ticket but says he will ensure that Parallels (the makers of Plesk) fix the issue.  I'll check back here from time to time to see if any other users find out it's been fixed and I'll post myself if I find out that it has been but since my trouble ticket was closed I may not have the quickest information.

Ryno,

Just to give you an update, we've been beta testing Plesk v9, and they have fixed how they handle the backup/restore process.  We are very happy about this as it now makes everyone's job a little easier. I am not completely positive when it's going to be released, but as soon as they release it and we are comfortable with it's stability, PowerDNN will be offering Plesk v9.

Try the hosting that I have on offer: http://www.bestwebsites.co.nz/web-hosting-plans/

You can back up AND restore from the control panel.

Outstanding.  I'm going to bring another of my sites over to PowerDNN today and look forward to that functionality.  I'll be sure to post here once the new Plesk functionality is provided for all interested.

The PowerDNN FAQ on migrating websites from one site to them is a bit confusing but they do have a simple process setup to accomplish that.
