Sorry I've posted this before and never found a solution but I have just upgraded my servers to new quad core Xeons with a ton of ram and the load speeds of DNN sites is just way too slow to be usable.

I love this platform but am at a loss how anyone can use it. It take 2 to 5 minutes to load up the site for the first time. Then it is ok for a while, if you keep using it but if you go into a different module it does the same thing. If you go away for an hour and come back it starts all over again.

I know my site has not lauched yet and has no traffic but even if it is the first user of the day it is just unacceptable.

Surely there has to be a solution to this. There is no way I can have a website that takes that long to load up.

It's such a pity because this appears to be only fatal flaw in an otherwise amazing platform.

I can assure you that if it takes 2 minutes to load your site, you are doing something else wrong (or a bad module). ASP.NET itself has a somewhat slow startup time. This is because all of the dll's in your bin folder are copied to a temporary folder and run from there. Also, JIT is done on top of this.

That said, are you using caching? How many pages does the site contain? If it is a lot of pages, are you attempting to control how many of those pages are loaded into the menu? Are you using the Site Log? Are you clearing Site Log, Event Viewer on a schedule to avoid those getting too large? Are you using a scheduled task to synchronize the db and the file system? If so, is this a very large file system?

There is a clean up in the memory takes place when there is no body hitting your site for a respective time.

The Keep Alive will do it for you.You can ping URL in a certain interval to make it more responsive .

While an AppDomain unload will cause some initial latency, 2 to 5 minutes is still indicative of a problem.  If I were in the poster's shoes, I would spend some time with perfmon and SQL Server Profiler to determine exactly where the bottleneck is occurring.  DNN should not require that much time to get up and running.

riprod,

As everyone is mentioning in this thread there is SOMETHING wrong with your configuration, modules, etc, that is causing an issue for you.

I am running my personal site (http://www.mitchelsellers.com) and my business site (http://www.iowacomputergurus.com) on a VPS solution, with 1Gb of ram, and a dual core processor, I run about 1000 visitors a day, give or take and my average recorded page load time is 0.72 seconds.

THe key is validating configuration elements, and the third party modules that you are using.

If you are looking for specific consulting assistance on this, feel free to e-mail me as well msellers@iowacomputergurus.com
