Hi,

One of my clients asked me about DNN ability to let his users read his books online.

He has many printed and soft publications which he distribute freely to subscribers. He wants to be able to upload complete books to the net and let registerred users read them online.

My first thought was to use Ventrian's News Articles module but in second thought I realised that may be some other unknown modules will better handle a mass storage of reading materials.

If you have any insight regarding this issue I'll appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,

Yehuda

Which is the format of the book, are there any actions to be taken for authors to submit or users to read a book (payment) ?

you might also consider to use UserDefinedTable module, which allows you to specify attributes per book to list, allows uploading etc.

 Hi Sebastian,

Thank you for replying.

The format is PDF, Word or images (scanned). But I would not like to be confined to these formats.

No actions are required from the author nor the reader, the organization is nonprofit one and they would love to spread their word with no payment.

The books will be uploaded by admin and not by users so the upload does not have to consider requirements like security for regular users. That also means that the upload has to be friendly but also can be one that the learning curve is steeper than for regular user.

UDT looks like is not the solution (I may be wrong here since even I am familiar with it uses like phone books etc I never used it for something that is more complicated) since I think it can't bring the sophisticated look I need.

I hope this make my request more clear.

Thank you,

Yehuda

The Repository module might be an option for you.. in addition to the standard upload/download functionality, the Repository module allows your visitors to rate and comment on the items, which might be of interest to your client.
