dlykins,

From the look of it, I believe the invisionpower.com forum is powered by PHPbb, the extremely (I would say, the most) popular open-source forum engine out there. Yea, as an experienced open-source web developer, I would say the PHP-based stuff is vastly better than the MS (DotNetNuke) stuff . . . mainly because the PHP variety is less restrictive for developers . . . one doesn't have to work within anybody's framework. But then, if you think about it, the framework was designed/developed for a purpose (to allow non-tech people to build web sites quickly), and the PHP-based stuff requires at least some technical know-how. So one deals with the trade-off.

In any case, my LONG, rocky-roaded, search for a DNN forum (and forum alternatives) that supports anonymous posting came to a good one: Presstopia (http://www.presstopia.com/dnn/default.aspx)   Unlike many that I've experimented with, it is very easy to install into DNN, and it works! Check it out. It's working on my development site for my client now.

Cheers,
JC

I am in the middle of refactoring this code, as well as completely changing the permissoins structure to be in a grid format. I have blogged about this in the past and you can get more info there. I am posting because I will allow anonymous posting in a future version, but I will not be doing it in the next one. The reason is I do not want to make another change around security that could cause nightmares. This will need to be something that is carefully reviewed prior to implementation (as I did w/ the items I am finishing up now). I can't tell you when exactly, so don't bother asking (not trying to be rude, just honest). I think if you allow anonymous posts, there needs to be something that allows all anonymous posts only to be moderated for approval even in unmoderated forums. It is things like this which need to be carefully planned out prior to just throwing it in there.

The question was asked "why can't this module work like this", well the answer is simply time. I started working on this module based on the TTT one which did not allow this. I have spent the past 18 months adding features, changing things, keeping up w/ the API, working on bugs from the original application and ones I created in my own development. After the next release, almost the entire foundation of this module will have been overhauled which finally allows me to focus on future big ticket items.
