So i was notified about the 4.9 DNN was out and decided to upgrade.

However searching on google and in here i got the feeling this is a somewhat risky thing to do?
Ppl all over the net are complaining about lost files, install that doesnt work and produces 404's etc etc etc.

The only thing i havent been able to find is the simple guide on how to make a succesful upgrade from 4.8.4 to 4.9.0?

Right now ive backed up all the files from the root of my web using ftp access, and id like to backup the database as well, however i cant find anything in DNN admin/host that says backup or anything like it?

Also at different forums i see ppl suggest using the install package rather than the upgrade package, does that mean the upgrade package doesnt work properly and in case its better to use the install package, why is there an upgrade package?

1. Where do i go to backup my DNN portal database?
2. Do i have to alter any existing files before the upgrade?

I expected the upgrade to be (simply) like this:

1. Download the DNN 4.9.0 upg zipfile.
2. Upload its contents to the root of your host directory.
3. Go to http://www.yourdomain.com/install

But reading accross forums got me confused as some ppl seem to have huge problems when doing it like that, while others says that aint the correct procedure?!? so what is the correct procedure?

Thx in advance :-)
