on the NRL.com site you can click on one of four links and play in media player, does anyone know how this is done?

Can you be more specific?  Launching in Media Player requires nothing more than creating a link with the proper file extension, such as a playlist or any other file that is associated ( locally ) with Media Player.  If you are referring to "in-page" video, there are a number of commercial modules for this purpose, you can embed the appropriate code through the HTML module, or you can hang on for a few more days while the Images Team finishes converting this module to "Media" ( its in testing right now *wink* ).
