check the code subdirectories node, where 3rd party modules may have added an entry; if you do not port this line, you will need to reinstall the module after portal upgrade

Thank you very much Sebastian.  This is precisely the type of guidance I'm looking for.  Is that the only node that may be extended from the default web.config used during the install?  Or can the user in theory change other nodes manually to suit their needs?  I'm particularly concerned about the configuration/dotnetnuke/anyProvider sections since previous posts state that usually changes to the default web.config file are needed for providers.

I'm currently looking into a .NET solution to merge web.config changes to release.config but there are no XML system libraries that make it easy.  I think I may be overcomplicating things and if I can get a reference of which nodes are most likely to change then that would simplify things greatly.

Thanks again,

jberganz
