Yes, I'm gonna post a thread on this until a more clear answer is given as to why this happens.

First off, I'm no newb here and have done this installation about 10 times tonight and a few last night via the web starter kit.  Using the "File System" it installed with no problem but can only run it by right-clicking on default.aspx and "view in browser" not quite the way it should work.

I've have tried everything I can think of getting the IIS creation method to work.  Here's a few things:

  • Don't tell me it's a "permissions" thing I KNOW IT IS!
  • /portals/0 doesn't get created

00:00:13.406 - Executing Additional Scripts:
00:00:13.406 -   Creating Portal: My Website
00:00:13.640 -   Error: Access to the path 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke Website\Portals\0\' is denied.
00:00:13.640 -   Portal failed to install:
00:00:13.640 - Installing Optional Resources:

Now let's run through some things I have already done.

  • ASPNET user configured with full control of folder
  • IIS checked and ensured 2.0 framework is being used
  • Application settings (under IIS) was tried using default (no application name)
  • Application settings (under IIS) was tried by removing the default and recreating it (thus giving it a name)
  • NETWORK SERVICE was tried given full control of folder
  • 2005Express, 2000, and 2005 were all tried as the database directory (the database creates just fine)

Yes I read the install manual several times even (as one post says) starting on page 27 and still no workie.

Please if anyone has any other ideas please share them, don't just view the post, please post a helpful response, there are obviously several people with this exact same problem.

System Config

  • Windows XP Pro SP2
  • Visual Studio 2005 Pro
