sorry, i'm using "we" in the sense of core code (i'm one of the coreteam), sorry if that wasn't clear. My original answer was trying to say that you shouldn't have to do anything, it should just work, but I've just tried a test of the 3.2 code and it appears the countrylist function is still broken (the issue was noticed in a previous version, and I thought the fixed code had been checked in). I'll make sure the fix get's added for the next release, but you may wish to try out the suggested code in that issue.

Change the sort order of the country you want to default to in the lists table in the database to -1

Strangely - this appeared in the recent aggregated forum posts though I've noticed only now the dates are some years back.  Is this a bug or might there be an action that caused this to reappear recently?

David,

this is an issue of the Forums version used, to list theads by latest post, even if this is an unapproved submission. Like you see now, there had been a contribution awaiting approval, while you answered.

Unfortunately, the IP lookup function for country is broken again since a number of releases  and AFAIR this has not been fixed yet (though I haven't tested it lately).

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold
