I installed a 4.8.4 DNN site on Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6.0. The site works fine as localhost but other workstations on the local intranet get the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" (using XP & IE7). I tried adding an additional alias using the IP address. I also created a Default.HTM to test IIS and am able to bring up that page from workstations. This leads me to think it is a DNN configuration issue. Any ideas???

My guess is the IIS setup, but not knowing  your environment, only a guess.    For my local home network, I have a site on Win Server 2003 which runs under localhost that I also access from other machines on the network.  I have two alias records on the site, localhost and the machine IP address.   In IIS, I use host headers on the website with two settings, one with localhost and another with the IP address.  I can open and run the portal from other machines within the network by browsing to the IP address.

Try the following:

 On the server machine:

Install the DNS Service, add a test DNS zone (yourdomain.com) add the needed records like www and point them to your server's IP address (Either virtual IP addresses or Valid), enable DNS forwarder on DNS server. On IIS check if your host has been added to the host header of the website.

Then in your DNN Database look for PortalAlias Table, open it add a new HTTPAlias with your new host name (in case it was not there already) for the specified portal.

On the client:

On your network settings set the Name Server's IP address the IP address of your server.

Now you should be able to browse your website from both computers.
