I agree that many users might not use higher than 800X600.  But for the DoNetNuke site I would think that the numbers would match the example I stated above (74% using 1024x768 or higher)

I can also see that horizontal scroll bars could be annoying…almost as annoying as a tiled background that is designed to only look right at 800x600.

Isn’t there a way to have the screen size to the resolution that the current user is set to?

hahah I feel lik ethe idiot ;)

So I was surfing around and something caught my eye...up in the top right corner to the left of the search bo I see 6 icons.  The 3 to the right are the letter A that are different size.  The other 3...well it took me a seocn dto figure out and then it hit me...hey that look slokk different screen resolutions.  Clikcing on each one cause the site to render a different resolution

very cool

I think the majority is actually 1024x768 now but I still design for 800x600 assuming that it will fit nicely on a 1024x768 screen with browser toolbars etc. After all, 1024x768 IS the new default resolution on new computers now if not even higher on some. At least, that's what I've been noticing because most places are really pushing bigger screens now, average display is 17" lcd now which displays 1024x768 very comfortably on your eyes.

Another factor in why 800x600 is still popular is the older generation whose eyes may not be strong for 1024 and higher resolutions.

I have a few people at work who feels much more comfortable using 800x600 using 17" monitors.  Even the 19" monitors are using 800x600.

So these folks are using it more for comfort than preference.
