I have just installed 4.9.0 and I cannot get to default.aspx.  it is there, but everytime I try to navigate to it, I end up in /install with a directory listing denied error.  What can I do?

Make sure that defaults.aspx is in the "default documents" list.  If one of the default pages is not found, IIS assumes you want to do a directory listing.  You can verifify this is the error by trying to access the site using the full URL including the default.aspx (ex: http://yousite.com/default.aspx).

The problem occurs because of a bug in the install wizard which misdetected the correct portal alias.  To fix your installation, go to the portalalias table in the database and fix the portal alias to remove the trailing "/install".  Once you have made the database change you will need to force an app restart by making a minor edit to your web.config and saving it (just add a blank space to the end of any line).  At this point your system should be working correctly.

Just installed 4.9.1 and 5.0.0 (clean install from install/InstallWizard.aspx)  The 4.9.1 installation went cleanly and functioned as expected.  The 5.0.0 installation incorrectly set the alias to .../install.  Correcting the entry in PortalAlias and re-started fixed the problem.
