This is the ONLY support forum I have ever seen that is moderated. I think it is has more to do with Paranoia about competition than spam or flamers.

If the product is good, there should be no need to fear, if it is not (i.e. moderated support forums), then maybe more efforts need to be spent there.

actually a lot of forums are moderated, dotnetnuke just uses moderation for a small number of inital posts the same as asp.net/forums does. Personally I would prefer if the forums module supported the ability to flag posts as requiring moderation (like forums.msdn.microsoft.com), so that the community could police forum posts, relieving our moderators of much of the workload. I'll be pursuing this with the forums team, but they're close to a point release after which I believe they're doing a large overhaul so that would be a more approriate time.

Note: Since we reduced the post count requirements a few weeks ago, there are many less posts to moderate leading to quicker turnaround. However, I still delete a number of duplicates, attempted cross-site scripting posts and spam posts (the usual viagra, watches etc.) every day - i believe if we had unmoderated access for all this would rapidly increase - as a community of 600,000+ we're a valuable target for spammers.

 Cathal,

I have never really brought it up because, frankly, it isn't a huge deal to me.  But I am still moderated and I not only have been on the forums for quite a while but I have met and have relationships with many core team members and members of the community.  I really handle more of the business side of things at PowerDNN, so I don't get the chance to help community members out with technical issues as much as I would like, but I try to frequent the boards as much as possible.  Thanks.
